Hormone Yoga Therapy

Balance your hormones naturally!

Hormone Yoga Therapy (HYT) is a natural and holistic approach to your hormonal health, a yoga practice created by Dinah Rodrigues, a Brazilian Yoga therapist and psychologist.

It consists of a special series of dynamic Yoga asanas to reactivate the hormone production of the endocrine glands, accompanied by intense pranayama (a breathing technique called Bhastrika which is a dynamic, strong abdominal breath massaging the abdominal organs), Tibetan energy technique (a mental technique to move and direct the energy, to activate endocrine glands and support the overall effect of exercise), concentration, visualization and relaxation (Yoga Nidra).

Regular practice harmonizes the hormonal system and helps to eliminate most symptoms of hormonal imbalances.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PRACTICING HYT

  • keeping up the slowly decreasing hormone levels of estrogen and progesterone, and preventing perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms
  • reducing the symptoms during perimenopause and menopause (such as hot flashes, insomnia, night sweats, emotional instability, depression, headaches, decreased libido, etc.)
  • helping in case of irregular menstruation or loss of menstruation or ovulation
  • eliminating PMS
  • increasing chances of pregnancy (infertility caused by hormonal imbalance or poor blood circulation in the pelvic area, tubal adhesions caused by muscle spasms can be also eliminated)
  • taking care of hormone imbalance post-partum or in case of miscarriage
  • helping with Thyroid Dysfunction, PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)

There are, however, some contraindications and conditions that should be considered before starting this practice:

  • during pregnancy (there are no adverse effects in the first few weeks)
  • during menstruation
  • postpartum (6-8 weeks)
  • if an increase in estrogen/progesterone levels should be avoided
  • estrogen-positive breast-cancer
  • with any other form of hormone-related cancer, do ask your GP
  • heavy endometriosis or a larger myoma (fibroid)
  • non-diagnosed abdominal or back pain
  • women who had appendix emergency but had not their appendix removed
  • serious osteoporosis (risk of fractures)
  • Labyrinthitis (inflammation of the inner ear)
  • Vertigo
  • after a surgery

In general, if there are any doubts whether it is ok for your hormone levels to rise please check in with your GP.

Exercises are simple and suitable for everyone.

No previous yoga experiences are needed.

The results come according to how often you do the practice.

Once you have learned and memorized the sequence/method, daily practice takes approximately 30 minutes.
